I recently visited the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales (cat.org.uk).
They have more green electricity than they know what to do with, “the fastest internet connection in Wales", a radical mindset, minimal institutional tech knowledge (my quick reading of the situation, could be wrong), and a need to make some steady money.
@stevecms is involved with CAT and would be worth talking to, also I’d suggest you talk to Shaun at CNI and there are more tech co-op people on the CoTech Forum than here so it might be reposting this there.
https://networks.coop are working on a project in Cumbria to build a small green data centre, powered primarily by excess electricity produced by a local hydro scheme. Given that data centres are pretty efficient at converting electrical energy into heat, the approach being taken is to not only use renewable sources, but also to use immersed servers where possible to enable optimal extraction of the heat energy, and then to use that heat energy to heat (or cool) local homes and businesses.
