A new worker cooperative is currently forming in Glasgow to take on around a 1.5 acre area in the city to regenerate as a market gardening business.

There are lots of ideas about linking in with food security initiatives, local community, etc.

The initial piece of land they can use will be approx 0.80acres, followed by the remaining amount of land coming into play after approx 3 years, following remediation work (with mushrooms!).

It’s Council land on a long lease that comes with a capital grant for infrastructure.

Does anyone know similar worker cooperatives (or similar) in urban areas that they could speak with for a bit of cooperative advice / solidarity?

Yes! @leedscath is involved with [Bently Urban Farm](https://bentleyurbanfarm.com/).

> Since 2021, BUF co-founder, Warren Draper, has been involved with the development of [A Commune in the North](https://www.acommuneinthenorth.org.uk/) (ACitN), an ambitious project which is seeking to build an ecological, egalitarian, community-active, wealth-share commune for up to 200 people somewhere in the north of England. After a weekend of workshops at the farm, it was decided that BUF was the perfect testing ground for the some of the practices, businesses and ideas necessary to build the commune. The core members of ACitN have moved to Bentley and have already had an impact locally. As well as becoming involved with the daily running of BUF and a range of other community activities, members of ACitN have helped to turn Twisted, the local indoor skatepark at Marshgate, into [Doncaster Skate Co-op](https://www.doncasterskatecoop.co.uk/), a workers cooperative made up of skateboarders. Emma, who also helps to run BUF, is currently turning Marshgate into another urban farm!

Organiclea in Walthamstow London on an old council tree nursery site. They’ve been operating for 25 years & have about 25 worker members. They run a box scheme, horticultural course and forest schools.

Hi! I got some feedback on this :

- Coops UK will offer free coop advice
- Better Food Traders have a wealth of small food business advice
- Land Workers Alliance for solidarity: [LWA Scotland](https://landworkersalliance.org.uk/lwa-scotland/). There’s an email on this site, most members will be Scottish market gardeners.

Note that Regather is a [Community Benefit Society](https://mutuals.fca.org.uk/Search/Society/19302) not strictly a workers co-op, however employees can be members and it does work more-or-less like a workers co-op so might well be eligible for `workers.coop` membership.
