Co-opolitics: A Political Journal about Co-operatives and Co-operation (Crowdfunder)

Principle 5 Yorkshire Co-operative Resource Centre have been working for a while on a new journal all about co-operatives and politics, and they are currently running a crowdfunder to get the first issue printed and a website established.

Co-opolitics is devoted to the political economy of co-operation in Britain. At a time when communities are grappling with automation, the hollowing out of local economies, and a growing sense that the institutions which once sustained everyday life have been lost or sold off, the co-operative tradition has more to offer than ever — but only if we’re prepared to think seriously about what that means in practice. This isn’t a magazine that simply celebrates co-operation; it needs to be honest about the obstacles as much as the possibilities.

Principle 5 would be really grateful for your support.

Would someone from Principle 5 be interested / able to attend the Workers Co-op Weekend to do a session on Co-opolitics? If this is possible could you add it to the programme document? Thanks!

That sounds like a great idea! By that time (if the crowdfunder is successful) we would be looking forward to content for Vol 2 - it would be great to stimulate some ideas for a piece on where workers.coop is right now, why it was established, and what ideally government should be doing to support the sector - at the moment it seems to be focused on by mutuals and focus groups.

As an aside if any worker.coop members would be interested in an advertisement for the journal please do contact co-opolitics@principle5.coop for a chat. Likewise if you’d like to learn more about the journal or Principle 5 please do get in touch!
