Events: Worker Coop Weekend and others

Can you wait until Friday? There is a request to try and incorporate/ support some of the local coops more, so I’m exploring other options atm

Just a note/suggestion to try and avoid 1 November, as we’re (Stir to Action) hosting a Democratic Business Summit in Manchester.

Thanks Caleb, will do :+1:

FYI, Rad Routes autumn gathering is 17-19 Nov in the Wirral and takes priority for me.

Sounds like we might lose some folk in that case - I’d suggest moving our dates as they’re not set yet and nothing’s definitively booked.

Here are the dates available at the BMI that don’t clash with any of the other events happening in October and November (that I am aware of). Please let me know if there are any other dates that we should avoid, otherwise please fill out the poll and I’ll get it booked in

  • Thurs 12 - Friday 13 October
  • Tues 24 - Wed 25 October
  • Wed 25 - Thurs 26 October
  • Thurs 26 - Friday 27 October

@Caleb Is there a Programme ideas thread or anywhere we can post stuff related to the content of the event eg individual sessions? I may have missed it, lots of threads!!

No thread, just this document (pg5) - https://office.workers.coop/apps/onlyoffice/51087?filePath=%2FGeneral%2FEvents%2FFirst%20event%20plan.docx

Thanks @Caleb, I’ve posted a few ideas including:

  • suggested timings for each day
  • a new section to list session ideas that we can programme between more open slots: fun things as well as more serious ones.

I can’t work out how to vote - is that because it’s ended?

Yes its ended, just finalising with the BMI now so we can send round the save the date with confidence.

I was hoping we could book the BMI for a days’s anti-racism training the day before, so 24th? However I don’t know if the budget proposal from CAR to PPC has been approved? If it is, do we have the budget to book the BMI for the 24th as well?

Hey Kate, can you please clarify who this question is aimed at? I’m assuming you are asking me and John if the event has space budget to book the BMI for the day before?

This is the first I am hearing about this proposal, so I need some more info - How many people do you think will come? How long will the workshop be? How much will it cost?

the Workers.coop assembly starts at 1pm on the 25th, so it could be put on during the morning of the 25th?

Please check out the Workers.coop Assembly Agenda Proposals and add your ideas to the table at the top

Hi Caleb,
I did wonder if this was the right place for it. I thought maybe you are the organisers of the event, so you might have some idea if this is even possible now. The CAR (Co-ops Anti-Racism) group is a sub group of PPC. We have been discussing the potential for anti-racism training for workers.coop workers, to be paid for from PPC training budget. Just before I went on holiday I sent a proposal based on a quote from Resist and Renew to PPC, but I haven’t heard if it’s been approved. PPC including John A. knew we wanted to do some f2f training at (or just before) the October conference. Since we believe we need a whole day, we thought the day before the conference would be ideal. A day workshop would cost £550. It would be les if we only had say 3 hours in the morning. But we would not be able to cover all the themes, especially as we don’t yet know who would attend so we don’t know the range of levels of experience and knowledge? Happy to talk more if necessary kate@cooperantics.co.uk

I’ve just created another thread to help everyone share and coordinate around ACCOMMODATION for the Assembly. There are 5 links to hostels and hotels that I have found so far. Hopefully it is a helpful resource.

Hey Is there a date confirmed for Worker Co-op Weekend in May 24? Asking as I had a really good interview with a Catalan cooperator who I think would be able to do a very good presentation about the co-op movement in Catalunya and the systems here, and may be in the U.K at the right time for it, so I’d like to let them know so they can plan their holidays accordingly, in case that idea pans out.

Yep booked for the 17-19th, we’re going to Thornbridge in Sheffield again.
If you do get ideas for international speakers who can attend in person (wi-fi is probably sketchy)
