Job opportunity with People Support Co-op

People Support Co-op is now five years old and we’ll shortly be looking for a fourth co-op member to join us. Our core work involves providing advice, support and training around HR (human relationships) and governance issues to co-ops, community businesses and other organisations with a social justice agenda.

We haven’t yet finalised all the details, but we’re looking for someone who is able to join us as a probationary member for 2 to 3 days per week towards the end of this year. We’d like to recruit from within our movement if possible, so this is an informal call-out for people to register their interest to help us decide if we need to plan for a wider recruitment process in the autumn.

We work almost entirely remotely - we don’t have an office and our members are based across the country, although there’s sometimes the chance to work in person with organisations if they are close to you or you are able to travel.

We offer real flexibility in working times and lots of member benefits which we’ve been building on from the start to create a supportive place to work.

This role will need you to be able to:

  • juggle a varied workload with competing demands, which involves being responsive to lots of different organisations for whom you’ll be the primary point of contact;

  • engage with complex legal information and balance this with an organisation’s values to support them to develop tailored HR policies and processes;

  • build and then use professional judgement to provide appropriate advice to the organisations you are working with;

  • engage with the day-to-day running of our co-op;

  • manage your workload autonomously (after training!) and be comfortable with remote working; and

  • share our co-op’s values.

Experience:

  • Experience of collective working is invaluable - we draw on our years of experience in the workers’ co-op movement and community organising to provide practical advice and support to others.

  • HR/employment law knowledge (for England and Wales) and/or hands-on experience would be a huge bonus, although you’ll receive undergraduate level employment law training during your probationary period to provide a core understanding of the legal framework on which we build our more co-operative approaches to HR.

  • Hands-on experience of collective governance and consent or consensus decision making would be useful, but training can be provided.

  • Facilitation and training skills would also be put to good use and knowledge and/or experience of sociocratic working would be helpful. Again, training can be provided if needed.

Please get in touch by emailing info@peoplesupport.coop if you’d like to find out more and/or to arrange an informal chat.

Please feel free to share this within your own networks to help us reach as many people as possible!
