Loaf Coop (Birmingham) needs your support

Hi all -

Many of us have been eagerly waiting for the opening of Stirchley Coop Development here in Birmingham to host three worker coops and 39 residential flats! Unfortunately, the building continues to be delayed, with a new proposed move in date of end of March. One of those worker coops, Loaf Bakery, is in serious need of some support as they are needing to move out of their current premises next week (they had to give their current landlord a 6 months notice). They are still covering staff salaries while their doors are closed and and sincerely need support to help them make it into the new building.

They initially started this crowdfunder to hope to raise ÂŁ25K to cover the incredibly expensive moving costs that come with moving a bakery - now they need as much fincial support to help cover both the moving and this unexpected down time.

If you can, please show some worker coop solidarity to my favourite bakery and a community staple here in Brum. If you can’t, please share their crowdfunder to your circles and tag them via socials @loaf.coop

In solidarity,

Have they / you considered asking SolidFund for support?

Sorry to hear about the delays Mikaela.

Will get this shared on Co Operation Sheffield’s channels if I can.

Good luck these next few weeks

If they can use the crowdfunder to cover survival costs while they wait for the move I am sure someone like Co-op and Community Finance or similar would lend them the money required for move and fit-out. They have a viable business with a track record. It shouldn’t be hard to compile a business plan showing ability to repay

@mikaela do you know if Fliss or Dorit are on the Forum / if not could you make sure they are aware of this thread?
I believe they are looking for additional bridging funds. I think they’ve reached out to Co-op and Community Finance but not sure what the outcome of that was! Hoping for the best for them.
