Pensions ('ethical')

Hi all, has anyone joined or done research on less-evil pension schemes? We’re with NEST and I found out recently that they’re investors in Elbit Systems, the Israeli weapons company. It would be good to be able to put our savings somewhere else.

This has been discussed a few times over the last few years on the CoTech forum:

Thanks Chris. It’s a very murky picture to be sure - when I have finished my research I’ll share with you all what I found.

Yes! @Sion and I have been discussing over email.

Firstly, Sion organised for Howdens insurance to donate some proceedings to workers.coop when members go through them. It’s something that two members recommended after using Howdens themselves. They’re a broker though, rather than an insurer.

Secondly, @martinfaherty and I through the Palestine discussions drew attention to Boycott Bloody Insurance linked below, who go through Planet Protection.

Hope that’s helpful! I know that the q of insurance is very industry dependent.

Might be good to do an online peer sharing session on insurance

Wish I’d seen this before my insurance renewed

Suprisingly in Ethical Consumer’s ranking, NEST came out on top and this was last updated: Friday 30th of May 2025. It would be good to find out if there are any pension funds which are divested from Elbit (and the likes).
