Remembering Ramy from Yalla Co-operative

The following was posted by Lina on LinkedIn today:

“There are no words to describe the pain of losing my friend, Ramy, yesterday.”

I’ve lost a great colleague, a reliable support, and a true friend—an incredible person who consistently radiated kindness and positivity.

I’ve known Ramy Shurafa for almost seven years, and throughout this time, he has been nothing but wonderful. We celebrated his engagement, his marriage, and the birth of his first child, who just turned one.

We lost not just a friend but someone who brought love, cheer, calmness, and unwavering support to our professional and personal lives. I joined Yalla Cooperative because of Ramy, who co-founded Yalla Cooperative and invited me to be a part of this amazing team. Every time work felt overwhelming, I knew I could reach out to Ramy—he was always there to support me, to help me, and to comfort me with his words: “Don’t worry, everything will be solved.”

Now, every time I hear Mustafa’s voice—Ramy’s son—my heart breaks all over again, knowing that he won’t be able to hug his father again. This brings back all my thoughts about the 40,000 children in Gaza who will grow up without their parents, or without families at all. With every passing moment, another Palestinian child loses their father…

Let’s take a moment to honor Ramy, who has always been amazing!

P.S.: I wanted to find a nice photo of us with Ramy, and my phone brought up over 500! I will write more about Ramy and share more of the great moments we all had together.

@joefriel (on the right in the photo above) attended the Workers Co-op Weekend last year and ran a session on Yalla Co-operative and how they are coping with their situation.

Heartbreaking news. Was Ramy killed in the Israeli attack last night? Netanyahu and Trump are hellbent on slaughter and alas our western governments are mostly complicit. Demo in Glasgow tomorrow night by the Donald Dewar statue. Could workers.coop send a donation to Ramy’s family?

I also wondered if last night bombing was the direct cause but Lina posted on LinkedIn that it was a heart attack.

Yalla Co-operative have a memorial page for Ramy on their site:

And they have a GoFundMe to raise funds for his widowed wife and one year old son:
