Sociocracy in Governance - experimental Q&A

Hello folks!

I just finished volunteering for a Workers.coop knowledge sharing session focused on Governance, and I am inspired to do more.

I have decided to do an experiment: over the next month (from today until the 24th of July) I’ll come on here at least twice a week to check messages and respond to questions.

I want to see if this can work like an old fashioned BBS or listserv for people who are interested in using Sociocracy in governance for their worker coops, and in growing the worker coop movement through spreading the coop/Sociocracy combo.

Please post your questions about Sociocracy + Coops, or how you’re using Sociocracy in your coop, or ask for help in growing the worker coop movement using Sociocracy.

If you want to explore those topics with me, please feel free to jump right in! And in case it’s not common knowledge, I’m a Sociocracy consultant, working with A Fairer Society (a sociocratic worker coop). With support from my mentors John Buck and Gerard Endenburg, I brought Sociocracy to the UK in 2007, and I’ve been active in the cooperative and intentional communities movements (first in the States, then in the UK) since 1996. So I have some relevant experience and I’d love to share it with people who want to go there.

Here are some links to things I’ve written that might prime the pump. I’ll share more if people are interested!

I’m glad you’re digging them!

Here’s another one: a paper on “leader as game designer”. This might be helpful for people wanting to think more about leadership in a cooperative.
