Say hello thread

Hello everyone,

finally made the transition over to the new discourse forum. My name is Sean and I am worker part time at Birmingham Bike Foundry, where I’m also involved in the stirchley.coop development. I am also doing a PhD on worker co-operatives and degrowth, with a case study in Barcelona, where I am for the next three months.

Hi everyone. I’m James from Go Free Range. We’re a small worker co-op based in London. We can turn our hand to almost any software-related project, but historically we’ve specialised in web development with Ruby on Rails. Lovely to meet you all!

@Ryansb Ok, maybe not ‘tons’, but… I’m involved with Permafuture Agroecology Ltd, who manage https://bentleyurbanfarm.com/ And old friends with Kindling Trust (Mcr), Organic Lea (London) and am doing the books for the Landworkers Alliance, so I see a lot of cool-looking expense claims going across my spreadsheets  Yep, pretty sure we’ve got the makings of a network, now just to find the time…

Maybe we can be an ‘industry’ circle within workers.coop

Yep i’m assuming we will set-up a wholefood retail and wholesale networks, so one around growing, probably makes sense as well?

Hi,

I’m Craig Adams from Black Cat Worker Collective in Aberdeen. We’re a 30 strong anarchal (non-hierarchal) nonprofit worker cooperative who run a tiki dive bar and grassroots music venue called Krakatoa. We’re currently developing the upstairs of our building into a vegetarian restaurant, 8 double hotel rooms for travelling musicians, and also an apartment for a live-in caretaker.

I have 30 years experience in anarchal organisation and ansynd praxis, much of it spent helping new cooperators adapt to worker self-management.

In Sol!

Cooperative greetings from Poland everyone!

I’m Ula and I work for two Polish organizations, one dedicated to workers’ cooperative movement called National Auditing Union of Cooperatives (NAUWC) and the other dedicated to Social Economy in Poland called Foundation for Social and Economic Initiatives (FISE). They’re both involved in up to date projects and coop related initiatives domestically and abroad.
I’m happy to join the plaform for more exchanges on coop topics but also for opportunities for all of us to meet in person and exchange on our coops in a form of study visits, workshops and so forth either within and outside projects’ frameworks.

Look forward to chatting on coop/SE themes!

I am a member of the Stirchley Co-operative Development project, building co-op housing & retail space for worker co-ops. Until the pandemic I was a worker at (and helped to start) The Warehouse Café workers co-op in Brum, at the time I was living in Gung Ho housing co-op.
Looking forward to meeting more of you & getting stuck in! :star_struck:

Hello everyone, my name’s Nicholas Frealand and I’m a member of a community psychotherapy worker cooperative currently founding in south London.

In terms of my experience with cooperatives (beyond being a passionate customer of them), I grew up attending the Woodcraft Folk and more recently worked at Green Shoots Day Nursery in Oval.

I’m not sure if it’s best to be posting here or on Loomio so I will post this message on both spaces which look excellent - thanks to everyone who has contributed to them and the wider support networks.

Hello, James from Open Data Services here. We are based all around the UK (a remote org) but I’m based up in Edinburgh.

We actually have a job going but I’m not allowed to post links yet! If you google us it’s on our website.

I’ve manually increased your trust level from 0 to 1, this does happen automatically with use but perhaps we could look at setting it so people who sign up with a .coop email address automatically getting +1 and perhaps we should also look at this for members using SSO.

hey james, just replying in case that helps up your trust level, c x

Thanks both! And I understand spam problems so no worries. My colleague could post the job in the proper category and has done.

Looking forward to chatting to share experiences - there’s some in-person events happening in Edinburgh and it’s been really good.
